Linear Central Shinkansen Line Environmental Assessment of West Side of Nagoya Started
JR Tokai President Shunsuke Niwa announced at a press conference that the company has begun geological surveys and other "environmental assessments" for the opening of the west side of the Linear Central Shinkansen from Nagoya. Based on the survey results, the company plans to narrow down the route and station locations.
With regard to the Linear Central Shinkansen, JR Tokai is currently proceeding with construction with the aim of opening the line between Shinagawa and Nagoya, while it has only exchanged opinions with local authorities and conducted a literature survey regarding the route west of Nagoya.
Against this backdrop, JR Tokai President Niwa announced at a press conference in Osaka City on April 7 that the company had begun "environmental assessment" this week, including geological surveys in Nara and Mie prefectures.
These surveys are necessary to narrow down the specific route and station locations, and have entered a concrete stage toward the start of construction of the Nagoya-Osaka line.
When the Linear Chuo Shinkansen between Shinagawa and Osaka opens, it will connect the two cities in just one hour and seven minutes.
At the press conference, President Niwa said, "The Linear Central Shinkansen is eagerly awaited by people west of Nagoya. We would like to work toward the full opening of the line.
