Dutch startup Hardt Hyperloop declared bankrupt
Hardt Hyperloop, one of Europe’s best-known hyperloop developers, has gone bankrupt. A court in The Hague declared Hardt B.V. bankrupt in early March 2026, and a trustee was appointed to oversee the process. The company has said it is exploring options to continue some business activities.
Hardt had been a high-profile Dutch hyperloop startup founded by former Delft University of Technology students. It raised tens of millions of euros in public and private funding and built a 420-meter test facility at the European Hyperloop Center in Veendam, where it demonstrated core technologies such as tube switching.
The collapse highlights a broader problem for hyperloop developers: moving from prototype demonstrations to fully funded, regulated infrastructure projects. Hardt’s most recent financial disclosures indicated the company depended on additional capital injections and only had enough funding to meet obligations into January 2026. Those efforts to secure more funding did not succeed.
