On August 21, JR Central announced its high-speed, long-length advanced boring survey for the Chuo Shinkansen maglev line’s tunnel construction had crossed from Yamanashi into Shizuoka Prefecture.
The survey, investigating geology and groundwater, had stopped 10 m past the border in 2024. It resumed on July 15, 2026, from 75 m away, and entered Shizuoka in the afternoon. JR Central stated: “[Translated quote] We will continue to conduct the boring survey carefully based on the set groundwater inflow management values and management flow, as explained to the prefecture’s expert panel.”
This follows the July 18 Natural Environment Conservation Agreement signing, with construction start timing now in focus.
