The Chubu Economic Federation (Chukeiren) has finalized a personnel plan to appoint JR Central Advisor Yasuhiro Tsuge (73) as its next chairman, succeeding Satoshi Katsuno (72), former Chubu Electric Power chairman. Tsuge would be the first chairman from a JR Central background.

Tsuge, who served as JR Central’s president and chairman, led the Chuo Shinkansen maglev development and construction of the JR Gate Tower complex at Nagoya Station. He was tapped for the role given the need to promote broad regional cooperation ahead of the maglev line’s opening. He has served as Chukeiren vice chairman since 2014 and was a representative director of the Chubu Economic Doyukai in 2011–2013.
