On the 8th, Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai) released on its website an overview of the construction project and environmental conservation plans for the “excavated soil disposal site (Oshidashi North),” which is being developed in Azuma, Nagiso Town, in connection with the construction of the Chūō Alps Tunnel for the Linear Chūō Shinkansen. The site will cover an area of approximately 100,000 square meters and will primarily receive 250,000 cubic meters of surplus soil from the Ogoshi construction section of the same tunnel.

In late June, double typhoons struck Japan, yet the “Tenno-sama no Ido” well in Mizuho City, Gifu Prefecture, remained dry two days later. Local resident Tatsujiro Hasegawa (81) reacted: “[Translated quote] It’s never dried up in hundreds of years…”

In February 2024, an incident occurred at one of five joint water sources.

The article, part of a series on the maglev’s future, addresses water depletion and excess soil challenges. Despite these issues and friction, stakeholders continue to push for early opening.
